it is peculiar to me how there is so much time in a day that i can't seem to do anything with. so i make up games where i nap and then wake up with red mustache creases from my top lip folded up and stare at the ceiling and go "hoh boy."

i'm reading this book and jack burden comes home and draws the curtains and takes his shoes off as he's crawling into bed and sleeps all day because he's fallen out of things. so sleep, because we're afraid of gravity, and gravity can't GETCHA when you're away. gravity is a thing that will pull humans closer to the earth by the strings on their hearts as they grow bigger. hearts get bigger when they realize they're alive. like how fish don't know they're suspended in HONEY. we maybe don't know that though. and that so is everything else. something told me about it recently. how internal organs aren't made from cobwebs and crumbling peanut brittle. the fountain of youth doesn't really run on boredom. you can fall in it and drown if you want but you can't hang on to anything because that's gravity's job. i don't know, there's value and greenhouses and entire cities where people are made out of whipping cream in everything. like how i woke up at five oh clock a.m. yesterday morning with my heart beating loudly and the telephone stuck under my head from where i kept it in my hand hours before and felt like a big little gust of wind bending over stalks of saint augustine because i know the sky is a different color in other places and C'MON BABY, YOU KNOW I WANNA BE YOUR PRESIDENT and that's so great my heart turns green. i've felt inadequate at times, that i don't know what to do with these things, and something gets whirled away like a paperbag in a billowy field or girlhood hopes, but then i think maybe there's nothing logical to do with the fountain of youth or internal organs or honey but look at them and something happens. like when you press a bruise on your knee and the way it feels makes you remember where it came from.
